To ensure the health and safety of students in a laboratory setting, beginning in the Fall 2018 semester, San Diego should require departments to have those students required to wear PPE sign the student safety training acknowledgement forms to demonstrate that they have received proper laboratory safety training.
1-Year Agency Response
In adherence to CSU Executive Order 1039, SDSU requires departments to have students required to wear personal protective equipment sign safety training acknowledgement forms.

San Diego provided evidence demonstrating that it requires departments to have those students required to wear PPE sign the student safety training acknowledgement forms to demonstrate that they have received proper laboratory safety training.
6-Month Agency Response
At the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester, the Associate Deans of the respective colleges were notified regarding proper laboratory safety training. They were asked to identify courses that use hazardous materials and disseminate the acknowledgement forms to those classes for student signatures. They were also reminded that the retention period for these forms is three years after the end of classes.

Implementation is in progress. The Fall semester begins August 22, 2018 and the campus will begin communicating with the respective departments regarding proper laboratory safety training and to require signed acknowledgement forms from students.
