Recommendation #35 To: Sonoma State University

To ensure the health and safety of employees working with hazardous materials, Sonoma should, by June 2018, review the training records of all employees who are required to take trainings related to laboratory safety, hazardous waste, hazard communication, or bloodborne pathogens and identify those who have not taken these trainings.

1-Year Agency Response

In response to the audit recommendation, SSU has assembled a training matrix outlining the type of safety training an employee needs to complete based on the job classification and potential hazards/exposures.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 1-Year Status: Fully Implemented

Sonoma provided evidence demonstrating that it identified the employees who are required to take trainings related to laboratory safety, hazardous waste, hazard communication, or bloodborne pathogens and identified those who have not taken these trainings.


6-Month Agency Response

The university has reviewed our training records of all employees who are required to take training related to laboratory safety, hazardous waste, hazard communication, or blood borne pathogens and identified all employees required to take the training.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 6-Month Status: Pending

Sonoma did not provide any documentation to support its claim that it has fully implemented this recommendation.


60-Day Agency Response

The university has reviewed our training records of all employees who are required to take training related to laboratory safety, hazardous waste, hazard communication, or blood borne pathogens and identified all employees required to take the training.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 60-Day Status: Pending

Until Sonoma provides evidence demonstrating that all employees required to take the specified trainings have done so, we will continue to report this recommendation as not fully implemented.
